Longwood Hosts Bluefield State College Saturday

FARMVILLE, Va. --
Longwood University will host NCAA Division II member Bluefield State College from West Virginia on Saturday, December 14 at 5 p.m. at Willett Hall in Farmville.  Senior captain Tristan Carey (19.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 30 3FGs) will lead the Lancers (3-7) against the visiting Big Blues (3-9).  The game will be streamed live on the Big South Network and can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM or via the Internet at wvhl.net.

Longwood and Bluefield State are meeting for the first time in the sport of men's basketball.

Looking At Longwood
Longwood is 3-7 overall, 0-0 in the Big South Conference after a 76-67 home loss to Eastern Kentucky University last Saturday.  Tristan Carey led the Lancers with his team-high 22 points, 16 in the second half, while making 5-8 three-pointers and adding game highs of seven rebounds and four steals.  Carey moved into 15th place on the all-time scoring list, now with 1,107 career points.  Sophomore transfer Leron Fisher and sophomore Karl Ziegler each contributed 10 points, while redshirt-junior captain Jeylani Dublin had nine points and a game-high seven rebounds off the bench. Sophomore captain Lucas Woodhouse finished with six points and a game-high nine assists.  Longwood shot 58% (22-38) from the field, including 56% (9-16) on three-pointers and 67% (9-16) at the free throw line.

Looking At Bluefield State
Bluefield State is 3-9 overall after an 83-70 home loss to Francis Marion University on Thursday night in West Virginia.  Jamaal Jackson is in his third year as head coach of the Big Blues.  Against Francis Marion, Bluefield State was led by 6-1 sophomore Shakir Dunning (32 points, 4 steals) and 6-0 senior Simeon Denny (14 points) off the bench.  The other four starters were 6-4 freshman Dominique Cartier (8 points, 3 steals), 6-9 junior Samuel Ouedraogo (6 points, 14 rebounds), 6-5 freshman Sergio Smith (4 points, 5 rebounds) and 6-0 senior Remar Brothers (1 rebound).  The Big Blues shot 37% (23-63) from the field, including 31% (9-29) on three-pointers and 68% (15-22) at the line.

No Place Like Home
Longwood has attained a home record of 52-30 in Willett Hall over the last six-plus years since receiving its NCAA Division I certification and eligibility for 2007-08.  The Lancers are 66-40 at home over the past eight-plus years, not including the first year playing a Division I schedule in 2004-05 (1-10).  The program finished an uncharacteristic 4-9 at home during 2012-13, but was 7-5 during 2011-12, 10-4 during 2010-11, 9-3 during 2009-10, 13-2 during 2008-09, 7-5 during 2007-08, 6-6 during 2006-07 and 8-4 during 2005-06.  Overall, Longwood has compiled a record of 270-152 on its home court over 33-plus years since playing its first intercollegiate contest in the building on November 22, 1980 against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, a 62-54 victory by the Lancers.
