GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a pair of softball games Wednesday evening at East Carolina University of Conference USA, falling in the opener 5-0 before dropping the nightcap 5-2. Libby Morris|Dillwyn (Buckingham County) took the pitching loss, while Kramer and sophomore
Leta Bressin|Gloucester (Gloucester) each scored a run, and junior
Ashley Cornell|Portsmouth (Churchland) had the pitching loss in the second game. Longwood will play again on Sunday, April 22, on the road at Conference USA member Marshall University for a doubleheader in Huntington, West Virginia at 12 p.m.

The Pirates got a pair of two-run singles from Cindy Lopez (1-1, 2 RBI) and Kristi Oshiro (2-3, 2 RBI), respectively, along with a run-scoring double by Alex Fieldhouse (1-4, RBI). Courtney Smith (5-10) gained the pitching win for ECU with 7.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Brittney Latka|Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) (1-3) added one hit for Longwood, while Morris (10-12) took the loss for the Lancers with 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs, with one walk and three strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Longwood scored in the first when Bressin (0-3) reached via a throwing error, moved to second on an infield single by freshman
Kori Nishitomi|Kaneohe, Hawaii (Maryknoll) (1-3) and advanced to third on another throwing error, scoring when Nishitomi stole second base and induced the third quick throwing error by the hosts. In the seventh, Kramer (1-3) led off with a single and later scored following a fielder's choice play. Cornell (10-8) took the loss for the Lancers with 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs, with one walk and three strikeouts.
East Carolina scored three runs in the first after two outs as Jordan Lewis (2-3, RBI) had a run-scoring triple, and Suzanne Riggs (2-3, 2 RBI) hit a two-run home run. In the sixth, Jasmine Robbins (1-2, 2 RBI) added a two-run double. Sarah Christian (14-15) garnered the pitching win for the Pirates with 7.0 innings, scattering five hits and one earned run with no walks and three strikeouts.
