Longwood will play again Wednesday afternoon, April 18, on the road at in-state opponent and CAA member George Mason University in Fairfax at 3 p.m.
VCU scored unearned runs in both the first and third innings to lead 2-0 through three innings, and the Rams added another run in the fourth to take a three-run advantage. In the first, Jordan Weymouth (2-5, 3 RBI) reached on a fielding error with one out, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error before scoring on the play as well. In the third, Kyle Sutherland (1-4, 3 RBI) reached on a fielding error and later scored on a ground-ball out from Weymouth. In the fourth, Chris Ayers (1-3) was hit by a pitch and later crossed the plate on a grounder by Sutherland. VCU plated six runs in the sixth on six singles, including a two-run single by Sutherland, RBI singles from Paul Nice (2-4, RBI) and Bill Cullen (1-3, RBI), and another two-run single by Weymouth.

Ryan Schubert|Springield (Annandale) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, yielding one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Seth Cutler-Voltz (4-2) gained the pitching win for VCU with the first 4.0 innings, scattering four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
