Longwood Travels to NC State on Thursday

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Longwood University women's basketball team will square off against North Carolina State University of the Atlantic Coast Conference for a non-conference tilt on Thursday, November 15 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Wolfpack's Reynolds Coliseum.

Looking at Longwood
Senior Crystal Smith leads the Lancers with 15.0 points per game through the first two games of the season, followed closely by classmate Chelsea Coward with 14.0 points per game and freshman Daeisha Brown with 11.5. Coward has a team-high 12.0 rebounds per game ahead of freshman Khalilah Ali with an average of 7.5 boards. Smith is first on the team with 11 assists and Coward is first with six steals and six blocked shots. As a team, the Lancers are shooting 36% (45-126) from the floor, 28% (18-64) from three-point territory and 64% (21-33) from the foul line. Longwood us under the direction of third-year head coach Bill Reinson.

Scouting NC State
The Wolfpack is 2-0 so far this season after picking up a pair of victories in the Sheraton Raleigh Wolfpack Invitational. The squad defeated Ashburn, 85-71, on Nov. 10 and Wofford, 85-45, on Nov. 9. Junior Kody Burke leads fourth-year head coach Kellie Harper's team with 22.5 points per game. Marissa Kastanek (15.0) and Myisha Goodwin-Coleman (11.0) have added to the offensive effort. As a team, NCSU is shooting 50% (67-133) from the field, including 40% (14-35) from beyond the arc, and 63% (22-35) from the line.

Series History
NC State holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series against Longwood. The squads first met during the 1976-77 season when the Wolfpack earned a 100-48 decision. LU and NC State last met on February 9, 2012. In that contest, Longwood trailed just 10-6 with 12:02 left in the first half, but NCSU used a 25-8 run to take a 35-14 lead into halftime. The Lancers shot 50% (12-24) from the floor in the second half, but eventually fell, 74-45. Junior Erin Neal paced the Lancers with a game-high 15 points, while classmate Chelsea Coward added 10 points.
