FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University men's tennis team pulled its record to an even .500 (7-7) with a 6-1 win against visiting Howard on Lancer Courts in Farmville Saturday afternoon. Junior Nobu Tanaka|Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) is on a seven-match win streak after topping his No. 1 singles foe 6-1, 6-1; he is also on a four-match win streak with freshman partner Crescente Lesser|Santiago, Chile (La Reina) via an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Lancers host the National Independent Tournament Friday and Saturday, April 15-16 on Lancer Courts in Farmville, beginning at 3:30 p.m. against Seattle.

Lesser also won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2, giving him a six-match win streak on the season. With a two-match win streak is freshman Edward Becker|Sydney, Australia (Manly Selective Campus), winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, which makes him 2-0 in that slot in 2011. He also paired with senior Milo Barajas-Alexander|Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) and won 8-7 (4) at No. 3 doubles. Making his first singles appearance during the 2011 campaign was freshman Hunter Barnes|Chesapeake (Grassfield), playing at the No. 6 spot and dropping 6-0, 6-3.

Sophomore Marc Ferrigno|Hvidovre, Denmark (Brondby Gymnasium) and freshman partner Jimmy Davis|Manassas (Stonewall Jackson) are on a four-match win streak at No. 1 doubles and boast a 9-2 record this spring after their 8-6 victory against the Bison. Davis won his No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-1, breaking a two-match losing streak, while Ferrigno also broke a two-match losing streak with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles.
