Longwood tied it at 4-4 with another run in the third too as Newman added a run-scoring single that scored junior Dustin Sollars|Midlothian (Cosby) (2-3) who had walked with one out.

Unfortunately, Longwood would not score again as VCU added two runs in the fifth and a run each in both the seventh and eighth innings toward the victory. Cujas drew a bases loaded walk before Michael Cheatham (1-3, rbi) added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Kyle Sutherland (1-5, rbi) contributed an RBI single in the seventh, and Bill Cullen (0-3) walked in the eighth before stealing both second and third, and scored unearned via a throwing error.
