RICHMOND, Va. - The Longwood University men's tennis team beat the Richmond Spiders on the first day of the VCU 4x1 Invitational January 29 in Richmond. Playing a 4-1, five-point format, freshman Crescente Lesser|Santiago, Chile (La Reina) won his No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-1 along with sophomore Marc Ferrigno|Hvidovre, Denmark (Brondby Gymnasium) and freshman Jimmy Davis|Manassas (Stonewall Jackson) both taking their matches at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2 and No. 4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, respectively. The men return to action Sunday, January 30 for the second day of the VCU 4x1 Invitatonal where they will face Temple at 10:00 a.m. and VCU at 3:00 p.m.

Nobu Tanaka|Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) dropped his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (2), while Hunter Barnes|Chesapeake (Grassfield) and Edward Becker|Sydney, Australia (Manly Selective Campus) dropped the lone doubles match 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (4).
