FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's tennis team defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology 4-1 and North Carolina Central University 4-0 on the second day of the Independent Tournament in Farmville. Against NJIT, the Lancers (11-9) dropped the doubles point but won four singles matches. Against N.C. Central, Longwood won the doubles point and three singles matches. The Lancers wrap up their season on Saturday, April 17, when they host Seattle University at 8:30 a.m. on Lancer Courts in Farmville.

In singles action against NJIT, sophomore Nobu Tanaka/Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) won at #1 (6-2, 6-1), freshman Marc Ferrigno/Hvidovre, Denmark (Brondby Gymnasium) was victorious at #2 (6-4, 5-7, 6-3), senior Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) won at #3 (6-7(2), 6-0, 6-1) and senior David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) won at #5 (6-0, 6-4). Freshman Bruno Orlandini/Araraquara, Brazil (E.E.B.A Araraquara) led at #4 and freshman Adham Halabi/Beamsville, Canada (Niagara Academy) was ahead at #6.

In doubles competition against the Highlanders, Heird and Ferrigno fell at #1 (4-8) and Halabi and junior Milo Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) lost at #3 (4-8). Tanaka and Cardoso were unfinished at #2.

In singles action against N.C. Central, Heird won at #3 (6-2, 6-4), Cardoso was victorious at #5 (6-0, 6-0) and Halabi won at #6 (6-0, 6-0). Tanaka (#1), Ferrigno (#2) and Orlandini (#4) were all unfinished.

In doubles competition, Heird and Halabi won at #2 (9-8(2)) and Cardoso and Tanaka were victorious at #3 (8-1). Barajas-Alexander and Ferrigno fell at #1 (6-8).

Longwood is 3-0 in the tournament and in first place, followed by NJIT (3-1), Seattle (2-1), N.C. Central (1-3) and Winston-Salem State (0-4).
