FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Gardner-Webb University on Saturday afternoon on Lancer Courts in Farmville. Freshmen Marta Pinyol/Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada) and Allison Shulman/Richmond (Deep Run) won singles matches while Longwood (6-6) claimed the doubles point. The Lancers return to action on Tuesday, March 30, when they host Liberty University at 2 p.m. on Lancer Courts in Farmville.

In singles action, Pinyol won at #3 (6-3, 6-4) and Shulman won at #5 (6-3, 1-6, 6-1). Junior Zsofia Jakab/Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) fell at #1 (6-2, 6-1), senior Laura Simon/Barcelona, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) lost at #2 (6-7(3), 6-3, 3-6), senior Mason Davis/Richmond (Collegiate School) fell at #4 (6-7(2), 6-0, 2-6) and freshman Hannah Hill/Portsmouth (Western Branch) lost at #6 (3-6, 3-6). Simon's match was the final match completed and lasted over three hours.

In doubles competition, Pinyol and Jakab won at #1 (8-7(4)), Davis and Shulman were victorious at #2 (8-4) and Hill and Simon won at #3 (8-4).
