FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team dropped a 66-41 decision to visiting James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Thursday evening in Willett Hall in Farmville. The Lancers (1-5) were led by sophomore
Chelsea Coward | Mechanicsville (Hanover) with a team-high 12 points while the Dukes (4-3) were paced by Tarik Hislop with 13 points. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, December 5, when it hosts Gardner-Webb University of the Big South Conference at 2 p.m. in Willett Hall in Farmville.
James Madison started the game with a 9-0 run over the first 4:52. The Dukes extended the lead to 23-3 with 8:41 remaining in the first half and led 35-12 at halftime.
In the second half, the Dukes pushed the lead to 31 at 50-19 with 12:35 remaining. The Lancers went on an 8-0 run over a two-minute span to trim the lead to 21 at 59-38 with 5:06 remaining in the game, before falling 66-41.
Longwood shot 22.9% (16-70) from the floor, including 15% (3-20) from behind the arc, and 46.2% (6-13) from the foul line. Coward scored 12 points (4-19 FG) while junior

James Madison shot 35.9% (23-64) from the floor, including 18.2% (2-11) from behind the arc, and 78.3% (18-23) from the foul line. The Dukes placed three players in double-figures, led by Hislop with 13 points (3-11 FG, 6-7 FT) while Kiara Francisco added 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-2 FT), including 10 points in the first half, and Lauren Jimenez with 12 points (6-10 FG) and nine rebounds. Nikki Newman grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Dukes, who outrebounded Longwood 66-38. JMU scored 38 points in the paint with 16 second-chance points.
