FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team is set to host James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Thursday, December 2, at 7 p.m in Willett Hall in Farmville. Longwood (1-4) is led by junior
Brittanni Billups | Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) with 14.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, while James Madison (3-3) is paced by Dawn Evans with 25.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. The Lancers are coming off an eight-day break after dropping a 76-60 decision at Monmouth last Wednesday while JMU is coming off a 75-58 setback vs. #5 Duke University. It is “Take A Kid To A Game” day in Willett Hall on Thursday, with all youth general admission tickets costing just $1. A Look At James Madison
James Madison (3-3) is coached by ninth-year head coach Kenny Brooks and is led by Dawn Evans (25.5p, 4.2r, 4.2a). Evans ranks second nationally in points per game as of Nov. 29. Other key contributors include Lauren Jimenez (12.3p, 7.7r) and leading rebounder Nikki Newman (3.0p, 8.7r). The Dukes are shooting 34.7% from the floor, including 28.5% from behind the arc, and 68.8% from the foul line. JMU is averaging 67.5 points while allowing 67.8 points.
Series History
James Madison leads the series 5-13 and has won the last seven meetings. Longwood fell in Harrisonburg last season 85-67. JMU's Dawn Evans scored a game-high 32 points with six rebounds while
Brittanni Billups scored a team-high 17 points with seven rebounds for Longwood.
Morgan Smith (12p) and
Chelsea Coward (10p) were also key contributors for the Lancers while Nikki Newman and Jalissa Taylor each scored eight points for the Dukes.
vs. The Commonwealth
Longwood is set to face seven teams from Virginia, including two ACC schools (Virginia, Virginia Tech) and four CAA schools (James Madison, VCU, George Mason and William and Mary) and one Big South opponent (Liberty). Longwood is 0-1 against teams from Virginia this season, losing to UVa 74-63 on Sunday, Nov. 21.
Against the CAA
Longwood plays four teams from the Colonial Athletic Association, all of the CAA schools in Virginia except Old Dominion. The Lancers' last victory over a CAA squad was a 52-42 victory over George Mason during the 2008-09 campaign.
