GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Longwood University split a baseball doubleheader at North Carolina A&T Thursday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina, winning the first game 7-5 before dropping the second game by an identical score of 7-5. Juniors
Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (3-4, 2 RBI) and
Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (2-3, 2 RBI) each hit home runs in the opener, while senior
Jon Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) (2-3, RBI) and junior
David Smiy Jr./Chesterfield (Matoaca) (2-3, RBI) each had two hits in the nightcap for the Lancers (4-5). Longwood will play again this weekend, March 7-8, hosting Saint Peter's College of New Jersey for a pair of doubleheaders at Lancer Stadium in Farmville, beginning on Saturday at 12 p.m..
Longwood trailed 3-2 after three innings in the first game before scoring three runs in the fourth inning and adding lone runs in the both the sixth and seventh innings. In the fourth, Cerreto hit a two-out, two-run home run to right-center field while Quigley (1-4, RBI) also drove in a run with a single through the left side. Smiy (1-4, RBI) produced what turned out to be the winning run with a one-out RBI single in the sixth before Kimble hit his two-out solo home run to left in the seventh. Senior
John Walker II/Alexandria (West Potomac) (2-0) pitched the first 6.0 innings, yielding nine hits, four runs-three earned, with no walks and five strikeouts to gain the mound win. Junior
Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) (3) picked-up his third save with the final 1.0 inning, allowing three hits and one earned run with no walks and one strikeout.

Garrett Lythgoe/Chesterfield (Matoaca) (0-1) took the pitching loss with two-thirds of an inning of relief, allowing two runs-one earned, with two walks and two strikeouts. Freshman
Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) tossed the final 1.1 scoreless innings, yielding one hit with one strikeout.
