WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 19-6 women's lacrosse decision on the road at the College of William and Mary Wednesday in Williamsburg. It was the season-opening match for each team as the Lancers are now 0-1, while the Tribe of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) are now 1-0. Longwood will not play its second contest of the season until Saturday, February 28, hosting the United States Naval Academy (Navy) at the Athletics Complex in Farmville beginning at 1 p.m..

Liz Sellmayer/Baltimore, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) scored her first goal of the year at 8:58. W&M added four more goals before the break to lead 13-3 at halftime as Mary Zulty led the hosts with four first-half goals, while Ashley Holofcener added three goals and an assist during the first 30 minutes.

Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) tallied her first goal of the campaign. William and Mary added four more goals for a 17-4 advantage at 14:35 before Bereznay scored again for the Lancers at 4:57, assisted by Warehime. The Tribe led 18-5 with just 1:50 on the clock before a late goal by freshman
Mary Simpson/Richmond (Trinity Episcopal) for LU at 00:15. W&M, however, closed-out the scoring with just five-seconds remaining for the final margin of 19-6. Holofcener finished with five goals and one assist, Zulty had five goals, Julia Martin added two goals and three assists, Clare Dennis had three goals, and Katherine Delaney contributed three assists for the hosts as well.
