Longwood Set To Face #24 James Madison

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball program will travel to Harrisonburg to take on #24/25 James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday, December 21, at 5 p.m.. Longwood is coming off a 76-68 win over High Point last Friday while JMU fell to #7/8 Duke 79-65, also on Friday. Longwood has won two-straight games, defeating Campbell 72-55 at home last Tuesday. The Lancers are led by junior Krystal Garrison/Fredericksburg (Courtland) who is averaging 9.8 points and shooting 36.2% (25-69) from behind the arc. Freshmen Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) is averaging 9.3 points and Crystal Smith/Richmond (Meadowbrook) is contributing 8.8 points and 2.7 assists per game.

JMU won its first seven games to earn the national ranking. The Dukes have defeated #15 Virginia (75-73), Virginia Tech (66-59) and Georgetown (79-76). JMU is led by senior Dawn Evans who is averaging 27.1 points, ranked second nationally in scoring. Freshman guard Tarik Hislop averages 13.5 points and senior Sarah Williams adds 9.6. Williams and Jalissa Taylor lead the team in rebounds with 6.4 each.

JMU has a 12-5 lead in the series and won the last meeting 80-42 during the 2006-07 season. JMU was ranked 25th at the time. The only player that played in both games is senior Becky Fernandes/Fort Belvoir (Bishop Ireton). She had three rebounds and two assists with one steal in the loss.
