FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men’s tennis (5-6) defeated Richmond 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Farmville at the Lancer Courts. The Lancers were led by Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) who defeated Doug Banker from the #1 singles spot 6-1, 6-1. Longwood returns to the courts on March 28 as they take on Clemson at 10:30 a.m. and Winston-Salem State at 3:30 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Lancers also received singles victories from Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) at the #2 spot (6-2, 6-3) and David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) at the #3 spot (6-2, 6-1). Sophomore Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) picked up a singles win from the #4 spot, defeating Rafael Arana 6-0, 6-1, while Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) won at the #5 (6-2, 6-2). Longwood also received a win from Andres Lazarte/Vienna (San Miguel) who played in the #6 spot (8-2).

Longwood also put in dominate performances in doubles, taking all three match-ups. From the #1 doubles spot the team of Heird/Cardoso defeated Will Minter and Banker 8-6. Lindsley and Lazarte won at #2 doubles (8-2), while Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) and Garcia took home a 8-1 win at the #3 spot.
