ATHENS, Ga. - Longwood University softball fell to Georgia 11-1 at the Georgia Softball Classic on Saturday evening in Athens, Ga. The Lancers fall to 5-5 on the season. Longwood returns to action in the Georgia Softball Classic on March 1, taking on Butler at 10 a.m. and Michigan State at 12 p.m.
The Lancers held Georgia to a 2-0 lead through three innings, but the Bulldogs proved to be too much for the young Lancer squad, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 11-1.
Longwoods' lone run came from senior shortstop Ryan Washington/Bealeton (Liberty) in the top of the fourth inning, when she crossed the plate after Michelle Phillips/Powhatan (Powhatan) doubled to left center. Senior Rachel Mills/Quinton (New Kent County) picked up the loss for Longwood, falling to 1-3 on the season. Mills pitched three innings, striking out two and walking three.
