FARMVILLE, Va.-- Longwood University women’s tennis came back from 3-1 deficit to beat Elon 4-3 Sunday afternoon on Lancer Courts. Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) battled through five match points in the number two spot to defeat Elon’s Jenn Tucci 7-6 in the decisive third set. Longwood will return to action on Tuesday, March 6, when they travel to Liberty for a 2 p.m. match with the Flames.

Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) fell to Elon’s Deanna Bailey 6-1, 6-2 in the number one spot, followed by the come from behind win by Bucur. Bucur fell behind early losing the first set 6-4, before taking the second set 6-2 and third set 7-6. Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) took her match to three sets beating Elon’s Paige Kensrue 6-4, 3-6, 7-9. After Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) fell to Kelley Moore in three sets, falling in the first 1-6 winning the second 6-3 but dropped the third 1-6. Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) and Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) each won in their respective matches, as Torrice beat Elon’s Hayley Wahl 7-5, 6-1 in the five spot and Huddleston posted 6-4, 6-3 victories over Whitney Butcher in the number six spot.

Bucur/Torrice recorded the Lancer’s only win in doubles beating Kensrue and Butcher 8-3 while Triebskorn/Davis and Simon/Melson fell in their matches.
