FARMVILLE, Va.-- Longwood University men’s tennis fell to the 57th ranked Elon Phoenix Sunday afternoon 6-1 at Lancer Courts. The Lancers move to 4-2 on the season while Elon improves to 8-1 on the year. Longwood will travel to Lynchburg on Tuesday, March 6 to face the Liberty Flames in a 2 p.m. match.
In singles action Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) fell to Damon Gooch 2-6, 1-6 while David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) dropped two sets 6-4 to Elon’s Anuwat Dalodom in the number two spot. After Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) fell 6-3 and 6-4 in the number three spot to Mason Schermerhorn the Lancers go their only two wins in singles coming from Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown). Patnikov took Elon’s Gustaf Asplund to three sets but fell in the final set 10-3. Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington, Va. (Bishop O'Connell) rounded out the action in singles falling to the Phoenix’s Kevin Beard 6-2, 6-2.
The Lancers were shutout in doubles as all three sets, Garcia de Andoain/Cardoso, Heird/Lindsley and
Bair/Patnikov each fell 8-2.
