BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—The Longwood women’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 setback against Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon in Boiling Springs, N.C..  The Lancers (4-5) swept doubled but only won two of the five singles matches in the loss.  Longwood will return to action on Wednesday, March 21, as they travel to Hampton for a 1:30 p.m. match.

Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) went three sets with Gardner-Webb’s Laura Kriett coming back from a 6-3 game one loss to win game two 7-6 before falling 6-3 in the decisive third set.  Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) beat the Bulldogs’ Kasey Ellis in two sets with 6-1, 6-2 wins. Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) fell to Jenny Gomez in three sets, losing fame one 6-2, winning game two 6-2, but fell in the third 6-1, while Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) fell to Monica Walser 6-2, 6-3.  Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) recorded the Lancers’ other win in singles beating Amy Braves 6-4, 6-4 in the number five spot.  Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) rounded out the singles action falling to Carol Pancia 4-6, 6-4, and 3-6.

Longwood was strong in doubles action as Triebskorn and Davis defeated Gardner-Webb’s Beavers and Kriett 8-6 in the number one spot.  Bucur and Torrice beat Walser and Gomez 8-2 while Simon and Melson won their match 8-3 over Ellis and Pancia.
