BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Longwood men’s tennis fell to Gardner-Webb 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Gardner-Webb. Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) recorded wins in both singles and doubles in the loss. Longwood will return to action on Wednesday, March 21, when they travel to Hampton for a 1:30 p.m. match.
In singles action David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) saw his first match at the number one spot and battled Gardner-Webb’s Evgeny Slesarev to three sets winning the first set 6-1 before falling in the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) and the Bulldogs’ Roberto Vasques had a see-saw battle where GW’s Vasques came away with the win beating Garcia de Andoain 7-5, 7-6. Lindsley tallied Longwood’s first win in singles in the number three spot beating Kim Ellie 6-2, 6-1. After Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) fell in their respective matches Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington, Va. (Bishop O'Connell) got a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs’ Taylor Ferrier to round out singles.
Longwood swept the doubles as Heird and Lindsley defeated Slesarev and Veiga 8-6 while the teams of Garcia de Andoain/Cardoso and Patnikov/Barajas-Alexander recorded wins in their matches.
