ELON, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a 7-0 men’s tennis decision at Elon University Friday in North Carolina. The Lancers are now 7-10 this season, and will conclude their 2005-06 campaign on Saturday, April 15, at George Mason University in Fairfax beginning at 1 p.m..
At Elon, Longwood was swept in all six singles matches while the host Phoenix won two of the three doubles contests for the team point as well. Competing in singles were freshman Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) at #1 (0-6, 2-6), junior Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) at #2 (7-6 [6], 4-6, 2-10), sophomore Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) at #3 (4-6, 1-6), freshman Roger Torres/Bel Air, Md. (C.M. Wright) at #4 (1-6, 2-6), junior Jon Bair/Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) at #5 (4-6, 1-6), and freshman Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) at #6 (2-6, 3-6).
In doubles, Barajas-Alexander and senior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) won at #3 (9-8), while de Andoain and freshman Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) lost at #1 (4-8), as did Patnikov and Bair at #2 (2-8).
