Baseball Falls At James Madison 12-7

Junior Captain Tyler Ames Collects Two Hits, Three RBI Against Dukes

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 12-7 collegiate baseball decision at James Madison University Tuesday in Harrisonburg. The Lancers are now 11-8 this season, while JMU improved to 8-4. Longwood will play again on Wednesday, March 8, at nearby VMI of the Big South Conference in Lexington beginning at 2 p.m..

At James Madison, Longwood battled the Dukes tough through six innings tied at 5-5 before the hosts scored six runs in the seventh inning to break the game open. The Lancers had scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings before scoring two runs in the sixth and adding two runs in the eighth inning. JMU out-hit LU 14-8 en route to the home win, aided by six opponent errors as well.

Longwood was led offensively by junior captain Tyler Ames/Exmore (Northampton) (2-4, 3 RBI) with two hits and three RBI, including a two-run single in the sixth inning. Classmate Tyler Childress/Montclair (Forest Park) (2-5, 2 RBI) also collected two hits with two RBI, including an RBI single in the first inning. Freshman Jon Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) (1-3, RBI) also had an RBI single in the fourth inning. Junior Brett Mangigian/Midlothian (Midlothian) (1-2) took the pitching loss with two-thirds of an inning, allowing three hits and five earned runs with one strikeout.
