Women's Tennis Wins Third-Straight Match; Defeats Radford 4-3

Sophomore Romana Bucur Wins At #1 Singles, and #1 Doubles Against Highlanders

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University took a 4-3 women’s tennis victory past visiting Radford University Tuesday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville.  The Lancers improved their record to 6-7 with their third consecutive win, while Radford dropped to 3-11.  Longwood will play again Thursday, March 31, at the University of Mary Washington at 3 p.m. in Fredericksburg.

Against Radford, Longwood took the doubles team point with two of three wins and secured the home triumph with three wins in singles.  In doubles, sophomores Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) and Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) won at #1 (9-7), as did freshman Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz) and sophomore Nancy Hott/Fairfax (W.T. Woodson) at #3 (8-1).

In singles, Bucur won at #1 (6-3, 6-2), Triebskorn won at #2 (6-1, 6-1), and junior Jessica Farr/Williamsburg (Lafayette) won at #6 (6-1, 6-1).
