DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a 1-0 field hockey decision to Davidson College this afternoon in its last Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) game. The Lancers dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the NorPac, while the Wildcats improved to 5-9 overall and are now 2-4 in conference. Longwood will close its 2005 slate on Monday, October 31 when it hosts Lock Haven at Davidson College in North Carolina. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Davidson scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into the second half off a goal by Emily Davis. The play began with Kayli Maxwell going one-on-one with sophomore goalkeeper Avanell Schmitz/Newport News (Denbigh). Schmitz made a diving save on Maxwell’s initial shot, but it rebounded right back to Maxwell, who then cracked a second shot on goal that Davis redirected into the cage for the 1-0 lead and victory.

Davidson held the 12-8 advantage in shots, while Longwood had the 7-4 edge in penalty corners. Schmitz closed out the game making three saves for the Lancers, while Wildcat goalkeeper Rachel Kiselewich finished with one.
