Women's Soccer Plays 8th-Straight Road Match At High Point; Falls 2-0

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- High Point University took a 2-0 decision past visiting Longwood University in women’s soccer Thursday night in North Carolina. Longwood, now 1-8, will play again next Thursday, September 30, hosting Campbell University of the Atlantic Sun Conference at Lancer Field in Farmville beginning at 7 p.m..

At High Point (4-3), the host Panthers of the Big South Conference led just 1-0 at the intermission before adding an insurance goal in the second-half to secure the victory.  Alex Torriero scored the first HPU goal early in the match at 7:16 with an assist from Ryan Hays.  High Point's Amy Anzovino tallied the second goal at 60:06 with the assist from Jen Evans.

Longwood freshman keeper Anne Whitmore/Charlottesville (Western Albemarle) kept the Lancers in the match with 11 saves while playing the entire 90 minutes in front of the net.  High Point keeper Hannah Nail secured the shutout for the Panthers with three saves, also playing the full match.

High Point finished the contest with a 23-5 advantage in shots, including a 6-1 edge in corner-kick opportunities.
