CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina University scored two late second-half goals for a 2-0 decision past visiting Longwood University in women’s soccer Wednesday in South Carolina. The host Chanticleers improved to 4-4, while the young Lancers are now 1-6. Longwood will play again this Saturday, September 18, back in South Carolina against Charleston Southern University.
Following a hard-fought first half that went to the intermission tied at 0-0, Coastal Carolina finally got on the scoreboard at 72:47 when Leah Barrett scored on a cross from Laura Weiler. The Chanticleers secured the outcome with a second goal at 82:00 as Simone Borucinski tallied on a deflection on a corner.
Coastal Carolina took a 21-3 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 edge in corner-kick opportunities. Longwood freshman Tessa Kofler/Stafford (North Stafford) led the Lancers with two shots, while freshman keeper Anne Whitmore/Charlottesville (Western Albemarle) went the distance in front of the net with four saves. Chanticleer keeper Jaclyn Stoll had no saves for the hosts.
