Men's Soccer Scoreless At Radford

RADFORD, Va. -- The Longwood University men’s soccer battled in rainy conditions and was held scoreless tonight at Radford University, falling to the Highlanders 4-0 at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. The Lancers fell to 3-8, while Radford extended their unbeaten streak to five matches and improved to 5-3-1.

Radford got on the board early as Erik Sokolik headed a corner kick into the back of the net in the seventh minute. The Highlanders doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Bo Allen gathered a long feed from Nate Pearson and placed it in the net.

Radford would ice the game late in the second half when Colas and Sokolik scored four minutes apart for the shutout.

Junior midfielder Stuart Bertsch (Norfolk, Va./Maury) and senior midfielder Shawn Spilman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led Longwood with two shots each. The Highlanders outshot the Lancers 12-9, while Longwood held 4-2 edge in corners. Freshman goalkeeper Justin Brock (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) made three saves for the Lancers, while Dan Stevens made two stops for Radford.

Longwood returns to action next Saturday at home against Pheiffer at 7 p.m..
