BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a disappointing 2-1 women’s collegiate soccer decision to visiting NCAA Division I High Point University Saturday evening at Lancer Field. The Division II Lancers record is now 8-5-1, while the Panthers of the Big South Conference improved to 6-7-0.

Against High Point, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead at the intermission on a late goal in the first half at 43:02 by senior Emily Lanham, unassisted on a loose ball in front of the net. Longwood responded early in the second half when senior Phoebe Munson/Virginia Beach (Tallwood) beat the visiting keeper out top away from the net and finished for her sixth goal of the season at 49:08 to tie the closely-played match at 1-1. More significantly, Munson’s goal was her 45th career goal to break the previous school-record (Erin Hirschi, 44, 1997-00). Unfortunately, High Point sophomore Wendy Williams tallied the game-winning goal at 65:14, unassisted on another loose ball that had bounced off the post.

High Point took a 4-3 advantage in shots against the Lancers, and a 5-3 edge in corner-kick opportunities. Longwood junior keeper Lindsay Naill/Alexandria (Bishop Ireton) played the entire match in front of the net with two saves. Panther junior keeper Katie Myers played the entire match with one save for the visitors.

Longwood will play again Thursday, Oct. 23, at Division I Howard University in Washington, D.C., while High Point will play at conference member VMI on Oct. 24.
